First Setup

After installing HeroJournal, take a few minutes to set up your profile. This information is used for exports and personalization.

Setting Up Your Profile

1. Click Profile in the sidebar (or press the profile icon)
2. Fill in your information:

Name

Enter your full name as it should appear on performance review documents.

Role

Enter your current job title and level. Examples:

• “Senior Software Engineer, L5”
• “Product Manager”
• “Engineering Manager, IC6”

Review Period

Set the start and end dates for your current review period. This helps you:

• Filter achievements relevant to your upcoming review
• Ensure you’re capturing work from the correct timeframe

Choosing a Theme

HeroJournal supports three theme options:

To change the theme:

1. Click the Settings icon in the header (gear icon)
2. Or go to Settings in the sidebar
3. Select your preferred theme

Familiarize yourself with the main areas of the app:

Sidebar

• My Achievements - View and manage all achievements
• Profile - Update your personal information
• Settings - Configure app preferences, AI, Git, and backups

Header

• New Achievement button - Quick access to create an achievement
• Export button - Export your achievements
• Theme toggle - Switch between light/dark mode
• Settings - Access app settings

Main Area

• Achievement list with filtering and sorting options
• Achievement detail view when editing
• Settings panels when configuring
